How We Designed a 30kW Flue Gas Heater for a Canadian VOC Exhaust Treatment System

From Application Requirement to a Customized Flue Gas Heater Solution

When we received the inquiry from a Canadian customer, the project did not begin with a fixed heater specification. The customer was looking for a suitable Flue Gas Heater solution for their VOC exhaust treatment system, but the required heating capacity had not yet been determined.

The customer understood their process requirements, but they were not sure what heater power would be suitable for their system. Instead of selecting a standard heater model, ELEKHEAT's engineering team worked with the customer to evaluate the actual application conditions.

For industrial gas heating applications, the correct heating capacity depends on many factors, including gas conditions, required temperature increase, airflow characteristics, installation structure, and heat loss during operation.

Therefore, the first step of this project was not manufacturing. It was understanding the application and finding the correct heating solution.

Understanding the Customer's VOC Exhaust Treatment Application

During the initial communication, the customer shared details about their VOC exhaust treatment equipment, including the working environment, equipment layout, and the purpose of the heating system.

However, several important parameters needed further confirmation before designing the heater:

  • Required temperature increase of the exhaust gas
  • Operating conditions of the treatment system
  • Available installation space
  • Connection requirements with existing equipment

The challenge was that the customer knew the function they needed, but the exact heater specification had to be determined through engineering analysis.

A heater with insufficient power could affect the performance of the VOC treatment process, while excessive heating capacity could increase energy consumption and create unnecessary control difficulties.

Engineering Evaluation: Determining the Correct Heating Capacity

After collecting the necessary application information, ELEKHEAT engineers evaluated the heating requirements based on the customer's actual working conditions.

The evaluation considered:

  • Gas heating requirements
  • Required outlet temperature
  • Estimated heat loss
  • Operating stability requirements

Based on the application evaluation, we determined that a 30kW heating capacity was suitable for this VOC exhaust treatment system.

This allowed the customer to select the heater based on actual process requirements, rather than simply choosing a power rating by estimation.

Challenge: Designing a Flue Gas Heater That Fits Existing Equipment

After confirming the heating capacity, another challenge appeared. The customer already had a defined VOC treatment equipment structure, so the new Flue Gas Heater needed to fit their existing system without major modifications.

The main design points included:

  • Flange connection dimensions
  • Heater installation length
  • Electrical terminal direction
  • Internal heating element arrangement

Our engineering team reviewed the customer's equipment structure and adjusted the heater design accordingly.

By optimizing the flange design and heating element arrangement, the final heater could be directly installed into the customer's VOC exhaust treatment equipment after delivery.

Customized 30kW Electric Flue Gas Heater Design

The final solution was a customized electric flue gas heater with a flange-mounted structure. The heater uses tubular heating elements to provide reliable heat transfer and stable operation.

The flange design allows easier installation, reliable sealing, and convenient maintenance for industrial equipment manufacturers.

Product Type Electric Flue Gas Heater
Application VOC Exhaust Treatment System
Heating Capacity 30kW
Structure Flange Mounted Electric Heater
Heating Element Tubular Heating Elements
Installation OEM Industrial Equipment Integration

Manufacturing and Quality Testing

After the design was confirmed, the customized Flue Gas Heater entered production at ELEKHEAT's factory.

The manufacturing process included:

  • Tubular heating element production
  • Flange assembly and welding
  • Internal insulation processing
  • Electrical connection installation
  • Final quality inspection

Before shipment, the completed heater was tested to verify:

  • Electrical resistance
  • Insulation performance
  • Heating output
  • Overall construction quality

Packed and Delivered to Canada

After completing all inspections, the 30kW Flue Gas Heater was carefully packed and prepared for international shipment.

Special attention was given to protecting the flange surface, electrical terminals, and heating components during transportation.

The heater is now being delivered to Canada, where it will be integrated into the customer's VOC exhaust treatment system.

More Than Manufacturing: Solving the Heating Challenge

This project was not simply about manufacturing a 30kW heater. The key challenge was helping the customer determine the correct heating solution based on their actual application.

From the initial application discussion, engineering evaluation, customized design, production, testing, and final shipment, ELEKHEAT worked closely with the customer to transform an uncertain heating requirement into a reliable industrial heating solution.

This project demonstrates the value of customized Flue Gas Heater solutions: understanding the process first, then designing the right heater.
